I graduated from SUNY Ulster in May 2007, with an AAS. I can sit for the state boards licensing exam to become a licensed Vet Tech.
I took the Wildlife Rehabilitator's Exam in April 2005. I have been NYS licensed for almost 5 years (don't let that fool ya!:)
I try to attend as many conferences as I can a year, and am a member of organizations that will help with my increasing my knowledge.
I am a member of NYSWRC, NOS, NWRA, CWRA (currently working on re-newing these memberships!!)
I attended the NYSWRC 2006 (Nov 10-12th) Conference too, in Lake George, NY. It was my first conference. I enjoyed it alot, and got to spend time with my rehabber friends! It was great! A friend (a rehabbber) & I got to spenc the nights in another friend's (rehabber too) yurt. I loved it! It was awesome up there - so beautiful, peaceful & quiet!
At the 2006 NYSWR Conference, I attended the following lectures:
Friday
I attended the Rabies Vector Training Course - in NY, this is required to rehab RVS. I still have to have my caging inspection though. This was an all day seminar - 8hrs. 8am-5pm.
Saturday
***9am-12pm, I went to a mammal fracture immobilization lecture (1hr)/lab (2hr)
*** 1pm - I went to a skunk rehab lecture
*** 2pm - I went to a bear rehab lecture
3-3:30pm break
*** 3:30 I went to a fox rehab lecture
*** 4:30 I went to a raccoon rehab lecture
Saturday a group of us rehabber all went out to dinner together. It was really great!
Sunday
*** I don't remember what I went to at 9, when I find my notes, I'll let you know
*** 10:15am - I went to some of the lecture on Insurance Issues for Rehabbers
*** 10:00 - I also sat in on part of the anesthesia for wildlife lecture
*** 11:00 - I went to a woodpecker rehab lecture
These were all really great! I have tunz of great info from people who really know how to do it!! :) Ok, so maybe I will never get a bear RIGHT NOW but some day - when I have my center (I WILL!!! have my center) I might:) lol
NYSWRC Conference 2007 - Oct 19-21, 2007
- Friar Tuck Inn, Catskill NY - Well this year's seminar has come & gone! It was awesome & I did many classes - I will tell you about!
I wanted to attend the all day Chemical Capture class, but I just didn't have the $$$ this year. Hopefully, another time soon!
Friday:
*** 8:45am - Avian fracture lecture immobilization lecture & lab - Lec went till 10, then we had lab until 12
*** 12-1 - lunch break
*** 1pm - pain management in wildlife lecture
*** 2pm - turtle care lecture
*** 3-3:30 break
*** 3:30-5:30 turtle shell repair lab
We went to dinner & then we went back & sat in on part of the panel discussion at 7pm, Ethics & Current Issues in Wildlife Rehabilitation - we stayed at that till 8:30 & left - we were all tired! lol
Saturday:
*** 10:00 groundhog rehab lecture
*** 11:00 medical math (always nice to get a refresher!)
*** 12-1 lunch break
*** 1pm - turtle husbandry for wildlife rehabilitators lecture
*** 2pm - diseases in songbirds lecture
*** 3-3:30 break
*** 3:30-5:30 - Beyond the basics - improving the care of waterfowl lecture
Sunday:
*** 9:30 Bat rehab! till 12:30 yah!!!
My Current goals for seminars are: (to be completed when I find some for 2010!!) LOL
